Objectives: The purpose of this empirical research paper is to study the impact of night shift on the Leisure Time, Social Relationship and Social Commitment of employees working in the call center industry at Chennai. The paper aims to highlight the relationship between night shift and leisure time, social relationship and social commitment. Methods/ Analysis: The target sample size for the study is 190, but the legitimate samples were 168 and these were found to be valid for the study. In this study, the independent variables used are Night Shift Schedule and Night shift Challenges whereas the dependent variables are Leisure Time, Social Relationship and Social Commitment. CFA was run and the convergent validity as well as discriminant validity was found to be reliable and valid. Amos using SEM was used to bring out the relationship between variables. Findings: The SEM Model was found to be fit with all recommended values as per the requirements ensuring that there exists a relationship between night shift schedule and night shift challenges on the Leisure Time, Social relationship and Social commitment of the employees. Application/Improvement: This study is a path way for the organizations working in shift work to understand that Leisure time, Social relationship and Social commitment is an important part of an employee’s life. This study is a trend setter for future studies as there are very few articles on the impact of night shift on the social life of the employees.Keywords

Objectives: Television an entertainment media has made its own strong impact among youth right from the day of its discovery. Children watching television has always landed in negative outcomes in aspects relating behaviour, their outcomes in the exams have always been negative and simultaneous lot of health related issues also arose because of continuous watching of television. The main objective of the article concentrates on parent co-viewing television programs along with children and there after their behavioural effects with the family members have a big effect. On the other hand due to Parent co-viewing the kind of programs children watch with their parents and their knowledge enhancement is also considered. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The study is based on convenience sampling of 33 children in Pammal area a sub-urban area in the city. It is based on the parental reports regarding children watching television for long hours, its impact on their scoring in exams, parent co-viewing programs with children, children behaviour with family relatives after watching television programs, parents’ knowledge enhancement level on health issues of television watching children are considered. Findings: The behaviour shown by the children while watching television with their parents’ ie joint media engagement or parent co-viewing is significant. Knowledge enhancement by parents on obesity, eye problems and impact of watching tv on marks scored in exams by children are proved to be insignificant. Applications/Improvement: the findings suggest that joint media engagement or parent co-viewing is not popular in India but the children rash behaviour can be made proper if parent co-viewing is done along with children because children rash behaviour and parent co- viewing are associated with each other.Keywords

Objectives: The article uses a sample of 200 employees from the BPO industry in Chennai to find the impact of non-standard work schedules on the family life of employees comparing the employees based on their age, gender, Years married, Years in non-nonstandard schedule and Hierarchy. Method: Lickert scale analysis is used to collect data from the respondents and questions pertaining to demographic variables and non-standard schedule were queried to get information. The data collected for family life were based on questions pertaining to family responsibilities, marital life and growth of children. T-test and one way-Anova are the Statistical tools that are used for the analyses. Findings: The Findings suggest that the effect of non-standard schedules on demographic variables differed with age, gender, years married, years in nonstandard schedule and hierarchy. The effect of non-standard schedule on the family life differed significantly among the different groups. The effect was found to be more in the age groups of 46-55 years and above 55 years. The effect was more in the age groups of 46-55 years and above 55 years as the mean value is 85.4 and 76 respectively. The tests showed a significant difference between male and female as there was a significant mean difference of 7.1. The effect was more in the group where in the individuals were married for more than 7 Years and married for less than 1 year. There was no significant difference on the effect of non-standard schedule among the employee’s years in non-standard schedule and hierarchy however there was slight differences among the different groups. Application/Improvements: The study enables organizations to understand the problems faced by the employee of BPO working in the non-standard schedules. The study is an insight for the employers to know the effect of non-standard schedules across the different category of employees based on their age, gender, marital years, years in non-standard schedule and position. This study would in turn guide the organizations to bring about measures that could prevent the problems occurring due to shift work.Keywords
